To extract the sweetness from a light roast using a standard pour-over, you have to grind incredibly fine. But grind fine, and the filter clogs. The water sits on top of the bed, creating a sludge that over-extracts the fines while under-extracting the larger particles. The Switch is not a magic bullet. It fails when you try to use it for beans that do not benefit from immersion. Dark roasts, for example, are already porous and highly soluble. Immersion will over-extract them, pulling out bitter, ashy compounds that a standard pour-over would leave behind. If you are brewing a dark roast, stick to a standard V60 or Kalita Wave. The Switch is designed for light to medium roasts, where the dense cellular structure requires time to open up.

It also fails if you use the wrong filter. The Switch requires a flat-bottom filter, not a conical one. A conical filter will not create the even extraction profile that the Switch is designed for. It will channel, and you will lose the clarity that the dual-path design is meant to provide. Always use the correct filter for the brewer.
